Wake Up Calls

How many of you out there remember what it was like to have your mom wake you up every day? You just went to bed whenever without ever having to worry about waking up on time. You had someone to worry about that for you. That's just one of the benefits of being a child instead of an adult. Now you have one more thing you can remember to thank your mom for on that next mother's day card. My mother waking me up carried well over into my adult life. I was grown with children and I would still get that wake-up call just to make sure I was up and getting ready to go wherever I needed to be on time. I find myself doing the same thing for my adult children. It's just one thing that mothers do to let you know that they still love you and you can depend on them. You can always rely on an alarm clock, but they are not nearly as comforting as your mom's voice on a cold, dark winter morning at five am.

I really detest those hotel wake up calls. An alarm clock is just about as friendly. All wake-up calls are important. If it weren't for those calls we would wind up sleeping through some of the most important appointments and events of this life. However there does come a time when you come to the rude awakening that you have to grow up and learn to wake up without someone else's help.

There is one more kind of wake-up call we sometime receive that is not welcome at the onset of the call. When enough time passes we look back and realize that it was indeed a wake-up call from God. God uses these calls from time to time to get our attention. He has to wake us out of a sound spiritual slumber. He uses accidents, disease, and sometimes, yes even the loss of something or someone that we thought we couldn't live without. He has to remind us that He wants us to be awake, be ready, be prepared to leave here at His appointed time. Sometimes His voice is soft and comforting like your mother's. Sometimes it has to be loud and alarming like an alarm clock. He just wants us to know He cares for us no matter how far we move away from Him, no matter how grown up we think we are. We are still His children. Today may I suggest you learn to wake up spiritually on your own. Maybe that wake up call from God won't be neccesary.

I Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness and sin not.

Romans 13:11 And that, Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
