Name It And Claim It

I'm the baby of my family. I'm a grandmother now, but my sisters and I can still have fun remembering what happened way back when. We grew up in the days of the Beatles, Herman's Hermits, Dave Clark Five, and all those other bands with strange names that I have forgotten. We had one radio station in town then, WTUP-Top Dawg. It's funny how you remember such unimportant things after forty years have gone by.

The station always had contests. My big sisters always played. After the first few notes of a song begin to play, you could call 842-1490 (still remember the number). You know what's coming now, yes, if you could name it, you could claim it. My sisters always seemed to win. They had more of those 45 rpm records than any of their friends.

My sister and I were talking on the phone the other day about this and some more important things. The subject of TV evangelists came up. I told her how my neck that had been hurting badly for about a week had been healed. I told my sister how a word of prophecy had been given by the evangelist that someone with pulled muscles or ligaments on the right side of the neck was being healed. He named it and I of course, gladly claimed it. A pain in the neck is really a pain in the neck. My sister and I discussed some people who did believe in this and some who did not. I am on the did side. There have been some to say that the "name it and claim it stuff" is wrong. They say that this could be anybody anywhere with something wrong with their neck. That is the whole point. It was somebody, somewhere-me. Now I know there might have been several watching who claimed that healing also. Praise God if they had the faith to believe that God indeed could heal their neck.

I had to go to my Bible and study some to find what it had to say about prophecy so I could give an answer to all the unbelievers out there. I knew one verse by heart.

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days saith God, I will pour out my spirit on all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams.

I knew that one but had to search for more to find what God had to say about name it and claim it. I found the ones that think it is wrong are wrong.

I Thessalonians 5:20 Despise not prophesying.

I found it was something we should want.

I Corinthians 14:39 Covet to prophesy.

I found it was not for those who do not claim it (unbelievers), but for those that do claim it (believers).

I Corinthians 14:22 but prophesying serveth not for them that believeth not but for them which believeth.

I know God can heal. We were healed long ago. We just have to claim our healing.

I Peter 2:24 by whose stripes ye were healed.

There might be some who falsely claim to have a word from God. The Bible has this to say about them.

Deuteronomy 18:20 But the prophet which shall presume to speak a word in my name which I have not commanded him to speak or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

The evangelist I spoke of is around seventy or so. God has blessed him tremendously throughout his life as he has blessed the kingdom of God. I know this guy knows Deuteronomy 18:20.

I'm sure he doesn't even have to look it up like I did. If he says God gave him a word about a neck being healed, I believe him. God uses other avenues besides men of God to give words of prophecy that we can claim. The Bible itself is all about "name it and claim it". When you read a verse in the Bible say, "that's for me!” God named it, you can claim it. It might say, "fear not", "my peace I give", "you will be far from oppression", whatever you might need, it's in there. Read it. Find it. Name it. Claim it.

Don't be so quick to say something is wrong if you don't know that it's wrong. The Bible also has this to say.

Matthew 7:1 Judge not that ye be not judged.

Psalm 75:17 But, God is the judge, he putteth down one and setteth up another.

Name it. Claim it.
