Communication Gap

I was a child of the seventies. Peace, flower power, far-out, heavy man, and all that other junk that came from our mouths back then really made us cool. My mom hated it all; she just didn't understand my hip generation. I would use this lingo every chance I got to really get on her nerves. With my children, and now my grandchildren, it's much the same. I'm so sure, whatever, all that and a bag of chips, your mama, are just a few phrases the younger generation throws my way. Generation to generation children and their parents always seem to have a communication gap. If we take the time to sit down, talk, listen, add a hug or two and a whole lot of love, we can build a bridge between all generation's communication gaps.

We as children of God have trouble communicating and understanding our Father. We ask Him something, He answers, and we don't even notice because He hasn't answered exactly as we want. Sometimes our prayers are give me, give me, and give me. He very often does give but it may be something that we need instead of something that we want. When this happens, we become discouraged and say well what is the use in praying, God has just forgotten all about me, I might as well try to do all this on my own. Don't make that mistake, God will answer, you just have to learn to pay very close attention.

On an evangelistic show on television, they have one week every year dedicated to prayer request. Viewers send their request in and each day the staff spends an hour praying over the request. I always send mine in and many prayers are answered each year. This year my prayer requests were, salvation for other family members, healing from cancer for my sister, and finally, last but not least, a new home. Other family members grew closer to God. My oldest sister was saved and baptized. My youngest sister's cancer continues not to spread according to blood tests she has done after her chemo sessions. I believe she has been healed completely. These prayers were answered. I remembered the request I sent in for a new home and began to wonder just when that house was going to drop from the sky.

Yesterday I stood looking out my backdoor. There is a pasture behind my house where my sons keep their horses, suddenly, almost as if it did fall from the sky; I saw my new home in the pasture. In September, the same month I sent in my prayer request, a lady gave my son an old mobile home. He pulled it to the pasture last month to make a storage shed for hay, saddles, and feed. When I walked down and looked at it I remember thinking how small it was and how hard it would be to manage to live in such a small space. The floors are falling through and it would have to have lots of work just to be used for storage. I remember thinking I am glad I have something a little better than this to live in. Even after all those thoughts, I still didn't realize God was trying to communicate with me.

As I looked out to that trailer yesterday morning, I finally got it. God was telling me this is the new home you asked for. I gave it to you to make you realize you should be grateful for the home you have. Things could be much worse. He answered my prayer months ago and I didn't even notice. I am learning slowly to be more watchful, more attentive to God. I have to learn when God answers it is not always, what I want to hear, but He does answer. We need to learn to bridge the communication gap between ourselves and our heavenly Father. A lot of times, we tell our children, "You're not listening to me.” I think God would like to tell us that very same thing. Keep all lines of communication open. Pray daily. Pray specifically. God does answer. .Remember an important part of prayer is listening for God's answer. Sometimes your answer has been sitting right in front of you for quite awhile and you haven't even noticed.

Isaiah 65:24 And it shall come to pass that before they call I will answer and while they are yet speaking I will hear.
